Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks to lose Luca Sbisa or Brendan Guance in expansion draft We're hours away from the announcement of the first Vegas Golden Knights roster, and it looks like the Vancouver player whose name will be announced will be either Luca Sbisa or Brendan Gaunce.

I think it is going to be Sbisa, that goes. VGK is picking a few defencemen to flip, they are going to need to keep a few to play. If Sbisa, is gone I really doubt the Canucks do a trade for Tanev, they simply do not have quite enough of the depth there anymore.

I find it funny they are interviewing for the Utica coaching job but gave no interviews for the Canucks head coaching job

great blog,

Too bad Dmitry Zhukenov is exploring all his options, it will be nice to see him in camp or Utica to see what we have. Hope we don't have to wait too long to bring him into the fold.

Depth isn't a YUGE priority if you're rebuilding though. Insert Pedan and Holm and hope we tank well enough for Dahlin

I doubt Gaunce goes, I just can't see VGK picking a forward with no goals and 5 assists.

Does VGK have an ahl affiliate or agreement in place? Guance might fit there?

Forgot about him. Those were just examples. Vegas will lose players when the get to 23 man roster and have to waive some guys,so they may have up to 7 players that they need to move (not counting the additional players they get for taking on a contract)

This....

Once McPhee has done with his extorting all the teams then its waiver issues other teams will wait upon. Hard to say what that phase will involve but thats one more phase to come.
LVGK will be fun to see what their final roster & picks amount to.

You know we are a bad team when an expansion team picks our player last.

The Vegas AHL affiliate is the Chicago Wolves.

Gaunce needs to clear waivers to be sent to AHL, and the Nucks will likely pick him up if he does not make the team. The pick is Sbisa, particularly if LV is flipping all the D they will be drafting.

Either we lose salary, or we move on from Gaunce. Oh the times they are a changin'. I'm excited to see what happens before September for a lot of teams.

Also i believe we get 1st rights to Gaunce if put on waivers to go the Wolves.

Its realistic to assume we r one of the last teams LV picks from.

I think we lose Sbisa, Vegas can only sign 10 RFA's. Why would they spend it on Gaunce?! Also, they have gone on record to say they want to stock-pile D from teams and flip. Not sure Sbisa can be flipped, but they need to reach the floor, and they need 8 NHL ready D-men. I think all signs point to Sbisa.

I never thought of that. But I doubt if they pick Gaunce, they will risk sending him down at all. They only need half of the amount of players for their AHL team (the other half being st Louis), so I don't see them sending guys down to CHI this season a lot. I think most the players will either be roster players or be draft picks.

This weekend should be the most interesting time period until training camp in September. Doubt Benning will be signing any UFA's on July 1st this year.

They need to leave roster, contract and cap space open for picking up 'scraps' from the waiver wire when other teams try to send players down to the farm. Should be some serviceable bodies and promising prospects available that can help boost their organizational depth. Based on their nearly last place finish, Canucks would have second crack at them until at least some time in October.

I think its creating something out of nothing. LV gets 30 picks. They submit 1 list. Why would they release the timing of which teams they picked first and last...

They are sharing an AHL team (Chicago wolves) with St Louis for the season. So they only need to provide like 12 or 13 players.

By the sounds of things NYR have traded their 1st again.

they will be exactly where the Canucks are now in 3 years. Aging stars, a goalie than never won, cap problems and no assets. Also Alain Vigneault.

you'd think GMs would learn by now.
